What Do Dreams about Being Chased Mean?

Meaning of Chase Dream

Chase Dreams:

My young son has a recurring nightmare of being chased through woods by a black, shadowy figure. How can I help him overcome his fears? M T- Perth Aust.

chase dreamBEING CHASED PSYCHOLOGICAL MEANING:

He may have feelings of guilt or fear of being caught for something he has done. Ask him if there’s something that’s upsetting him and reassure him that you will support him whatever it is.

Children who have this dream may be being bullied at school. If the problem persists and you notice unusual or extreme behavior in your child speak to your GP who will put you in touch with someone who can help.

Like dreams of falling, being chased reflects the dreamers feelings of insecurity. The dreamer is running away from something. Freud had a heyday with this one. Men were running away from the fear of castration he says and women from sexual attackers who symbolized her secret desires to be wooed. If you are the person doing the chasing then this can symbolize your ambition and desires to achieve a goal. You are chasing after something you dearly want in life such as a new job or an opportunity. This could also represent a fear of falling behind with work and being unable to catch up with things.

The figure that pursues the dreamer is most likely to represent an unresolved aspect of the dreamer’s circumstances or personality.

ASK YOURSELF:

1. What am I running away from? You may feel that circumstances are closing in on you and feel a need to escape. Perhaps you are being emotionally victimised and you feel vulnerable as you did as a child? Your feelings may be running out of control or there’s something you’re avoiding in your external life or inner self. Do you feel guilt?

2. What am I chasing? If you are doing the chasing, you are probably trying to banish something from your life. You may be frightened by some aspect of yourself or have an anxiety that you may never reach the goals you have set yourself.

Mystical Meaning:

The Native Americans believe that you should turn on your pursuer if you dream of being chased, wrestle then to the ground then unmask them. Follow this wise counsel and you will discover that your fears may not be as terrifying as you thought.

EXAMPLE:

Chased Down a Corridor

I dreamed that I was being chased down a long corridor. At the end was a small door with a chute which I fell down. There was then a large explosion and I awoke to hear my alarm ringing. This dream keeps recurring. Please can you tell me its meaning?

Mrs C

There is an emotional problem in your life that you just don’t want to face. It chases you in your dreams. You feel restricted- symbolized by the small door and narrow corridors. This makes you feel angry and you want to explode like a bomb.

My husband keeps having dreams of chasing me and then beating me up….what does that mean?

He may have repressed anger or resentment towards you. The fact that he has shared the dream with you is good as it has brought the emotions from the dream out into the open.

Recently, I’ve been having dreams about toys chasing me around my home, mainly porcelain dolls. What does this mean? Should I get rid of them?

I have the same nightmare almost every night, and its been about nine years. I am always being chased by something, generally though its zombies. I don’t mean slow walking, moaning zombies like the Walking Dead, I mean Dawn of the Dead zombies, the ones that can run ridiculously fast and snarl and scream. They are always right on my heals, but what is strange is I’ve never been chased in the same place twice, it’s always somewhere new: the woods, my house, a town, a city, a building, a boat, a fair. The scenery always changes, but they are always there at some point in the dream. I usually end the dream by killing myself somehow (usually jumping headfirst off of a building or finding a gun and shooting myself, because I’d rather die quickly as opposed to being eaten alive). What could that possibly mean?

For 2 nights in a row, I have been dreaming of a house in the country. A man starts chasing me, trying to kill me. In the second dream, he chases me across a highway and into a town I lived in. I try hiding in people’s houses but he keeps finding me. I escape both times. On the second house, I manage to run down the alley and am searching for help. A girl has now taken the place of the man and see’s me, shooting an arrow at me. I wake up trying to find help from drivers on the street.

For about 5 years now I often dream about the same dream being chased by boys or men. I’m often at school and have to walk home alone but I cant walk after dark because the same people men always chase me and hurt me. I don’t like this nightmare but it wont go away?

  • Playing chase with a child Sep 29, 2016, 10:31 pm

I’ve had this dream a couple times, I’m playing chase with a little boy, taking turns we chase each other, we switch locations in the dream. I’m an adult in the dream and he is like 10-12 in age , the chase involves tag and handing each other odd items like a book, or orange. And locations go from like my old grandmothers house to outside at my house, to in a wooded area, to at night then back to day time. Kind of weird dream to me. We are having fun in the dream, laughing and such because kind of a competition.
