What Do Dreams about Cats Mean?

Dreaming about Cats.

Cat DreamPsychological Meaning: Animals represent the instinctive side of your nature. A cat express feminine qualities and may represent the positive, creative and sensuous aspects of femininity. If the cat in your dream is aggressive, this may show that you are having problems with the feminine side of yourself. You may be taking a ‘catty’ attitude or have a negative view of women in general.

Mystical Meaning: In mythology, cats were associated with the old pagan fertility gods. They were a symbol of the Earth Mother and represented the power and wisdom of Nature. Cats were sacred to the Egyptians as custodians of the souls of the dead. Only with the advent of Christianity were they deemed to be the evil familiar of witches. Because of this, most dream books consider it unlucky to dream about cats.

NIGHTMARE ABOUT FLATTENED KITTENS

I dreamed I saw three different-colored kittens (tabby, black and white, cream) which had been flattened and stacked on top of each other. At first, I thought they must surely be dead. However, as I drew closer to them, I could detect faint breathing. I knew they were very close to death, but that if I could get them inside my house, I might be able to save them. It was with a great sense of urgency that I approached my front door and started to turn the key in the lock in order to open it. To my dismay,  before I could get the door open, the key broke in half as I turned it in the lock. The emotional impact of this actually awoke me from the dream.

CRAIG’S REPLY: This dream is about a series of troubles you have had to confront in waking life. Cats are associated with femininity and independence. In a woman’s dream they can be a symbol of how you view yourself. Kittens suggest vulnerability and the symbolism may point to your own youth and childhood.

The dream suggests that at some time in your life you were faced with a number of soul-crushing problems stacked one on top of the other – like the flattened cats of assorted colours in the dream.

At the time you felt that you were emotionally dying. Think about what are the three most similar, upsetting issues you have encountered in the past: for example three dead kittens could represent three deaths, three illnesses or three serious life problems.

The locked door represents the fact that you have repressed these emotions – you feel that these past problems have given you a feeling of being locked out from inner peace and happiness. The dream is trying to resolve these powerful emotions. You think that the key to resolution is to address the issues urgently but you continue to feel helpless and emotionally locked out.

My suggestion is that these personal issues are best approached with gentleness. You cannot force this door or – just like the key – you will snap. You have to gently and gradually resolve the emotional upsets and take some of the pressure off yourself.

I dreamed I was horrendously stalked by two cats in semi dark and confined space like an aeroplane or a cinema. One was pale and silvery cat; the other was ginger. The first silver cat grabbed my from the back around my arms and jabbed me with a sharp dagger. When he was finished with me I looked down and saw a slimy brownish red ‘weapon’ beneath his bushy tail. His owner denied he is up to mischief and said it was simply he was very fond of me. Soon after I was stalked by another cat and this time it grabbed my legs as I was walking. Knowing what tom cats can do, I bent down and tried to grabbed his ‘weapon’ by its front paws and tail grabbed me so tied I was crippled.

The cats here represent your past relationships. You hoped for something affectionate and cuddly – like a cat – but only got aggressive sexuality. The ‘weapon’ in the dream is a phallus symbol. Your lovers deny this but your unconscious believes otherwise. You need to find a more caring and empathic relationship.

I dreamt that my daughter kept bringing stray cats in the house and my late husband was there sitting with this strange female and wouldn’t say anything to my daughter. The cats where all ages and were urinating in the house. I got so mad that I packed my bags ready to leave. I then woke up. What does this mean?

I had a dream that I shaved my cat. She is black, has long fur, extremely fuzzy tail, yellow eyes with a ring of green around her pupil. Her name is Magwaii. She is a very skiddish cat and the other cats pick on her. She is often on high places where the others can’t get to her until we put the other cats that pick on her away in another room. It was like a barber’s razor. Those really long ones? I was sitting on our dryer underneath the little perch she sits on holding her in my lap and shaving her.

Last night i dreamed I was on the toilet doing number 1 when a cat came up in my face telling me something, I did not pay attention as I did not realize that it was the cat who was talking, so i pushed it away…when I did i heard it talk, and so did the two other male in the other bathroom stall that was around me (mind you i am a girl) as we all agreed that it was the cat that was talking i allowed it to come back in my space. It climbed up next to me continued to say all it needed to ( I don’t remember its words now) soon after it began to eat a toad, but not in an aggressive manner. And even with the toad in its mouth it continued to talk as he did not need to move his lips to do so.

When I left the bathroom and went into the room, my mother came in and asked me about money, then she quickly grabbed my wallet dragged out the little that I had threw it back on the bed and with tears and much crying left me a bank roll that said $1,400. when she left i took it up, but it was no…

I dreamed I found a stray cat which I brought home and kept in something like a lot time wooden toddler play-pen. I was extremely loving to the cat, rubbing and petting it, which the cat enjoyed. I was thinking that I needed to take the cat to the vet to check out since it was a stray. Any thoughts?

I had a curious dream last night. There was my mum sleeping on a bed, and suddenly a kitten; black with a white star on the chest, came out from underneath the bed. I pet it for few second than the kitty started to run away, it seemed like telling me ‘Follow me’. I did follow the cat and I found out other kittens, different colors, but there were two white ones dead, lying down on their back and showing their belly. The others were happy and vivid, they were meowing but not crying, more like a salute to me. I would love to have help to know what this dream means.
