Psychological Meaning: A flower is a symbol of the true spiritual self. Its symmetry and perfection shows how beautiful we really are.

Mystical Meaning: At first the Buddha felt that enlightenment was impossible to convey to the world. Then he saw a pond of lotus flowers at different stages of unfoldment. He understood that all people are at different stages of spiritual development. Like the flowers, some remain in the mud of desire but others raise themselves and gradually open to the light. Inspired by what he saw, the Buddha began his mission.
