Psychological Dream Meaning: Insects symbolise the irritating minor nagging of the unconscious or daily life. You may have many irritating small problems that need to be dealt with. In Kafka’s book Metamorphosis (1912), the terrified sleeper wakes up to discover he has transformed into a bug. Kafka worked most of his life in office jobs that he hated. Symbolically this can represent how working life requires us to form a brittle shell which can eventually takes over the personality completely. Here are a few of the symbolic meanings of common insects: Ants: your life may be too orderly. Ants can represent social conformity. Bees: industry and work. Butterflies: the soul, spiritual transcendence. Flies: breakdown, putrefaction and perhaps guilt. Ladybugs: happiness at work. Locusts: lack of psychological nourishment, your creativity is being destroyed. Wasps: Angry thoughts and feelings.
Mystical Interpretation: The ancient Egyptians worshiped the scarab beetle as a symbol of creation. In dreams, it can represent the soul. In some fairytales, insects are called in when things have become impossibly muddled. For example, they may be asked to separate grain mixed with sand or to remove gold dust from the grain. In dreams, they can represent precision and meticulous thinking. Top
Psychological Dream Meaning: Your dream may represent the need to communicate with a wider group of friends. What sites do you connect to in your dream? These represent the psychological qualities and needs that your unconscious draws your attention too. Emails can represent messages from your unconscious. (I have a special section of my website dedicated to dreams and dream experiments.
Mystical Interpretation: Psychics believe that all life is interconnected by a mycelium of living energy. What happens in one place affects everywhere else. By tuning into this spiritual World Wide Web, it is possible to use clairvoyance to perceive events taking place on the other side of the world. (Remote viewing is a good example of this.) In dreams, we can sometimes connect to this ethereal Internet of consciousness. Top
Psychological Dream Meaning: If you dream of being an invalid you may feel that something has robbed you of your ability or self-confidence. You may feel that you are unable to act in the way you really want to. Perhaps you feel crippled by your own negative feelings or by the scorn of others?
Mystical Interpretation: Success will come slowly. Top
Psychological Dream Meaning: You may feel that nobody is taking notice of you. What is important to you is of no consequence to others. Alternatively, you may feel that you want to hide from reality or the dream could be a metaphor for shyness.
Mystical Interpretation: In the Ancient Greek myth, Perseus used a cloak of invisibility. In dreams this can represent the hidden spiritual strength that is needed when exploring the unconscious. Top
Psychological Dream Meaning: Iron can represent inner strength but also ruthlessness. It is a metal associated with the Earth and the inferior whereas mercury or gold are associated with spirituality.
Mystical Interpretation: To dream of iron augurs badly. It is said to be an omen of distress. Top
Psychological Dream Meaning: You may have a craving for solitude if you dream a desert island. Perhaps you are surrounded by too many problems and need to make a little space for yourself? The sea often symbolises the unconscious mind so your desire to remain on an island may suggest a wish to cling to the conscious ego instead of venturing into these unexplored parts of yourself. The sea is also a mother symbol and can, according to Freudian psychology, symbolise your relations with your mother. If the island is engulfed by the sea this can represent the fear of being overwhelmed by too strong a mother-attachment or by unconscious forces that are out of your control.
Mystical Interpretation: Comfort and easy circumstances are predicted by the ancient dream oracles. Top
